I am an artist living and working in Devizes, Wiltshire, England. This blog is my chance to share with you some examples of my work and to discuss related Issues.
My training was in sculpture but I also work with painting, drawing, collage, print and photography. Sometimes I feel like a prospector sifting sands and cracking open rocks without any clear idea of what I am looking for. Other times I feel like a gardener slowly cultivating strange plants, inedible fruits, and exotic weeds. I would like to think you will find something intriguing, stimulating or enjoyable on this blog. I am always happy to get feedback. Some of my work has found new homes, some has been recycled, but quite a few still live with me. If you are interested in acquiring a piece of my work, leave me a comment and I will get back to you. Or if you want to chat about anything to do with art generally, I am more than happy to have a natter. Click on the header titles and have a wonder.
My understanding is that art is the appreciated expression of something’s nature. This view is central to my work. I use processes to explore, reveal and express.
I was born in London in 1959. My family moved to Australia in the early 60’s; £10 POMHS. We moved back to England in 1976. I did a BA hons degree in Fine Art at Exeter College of Art and Design and graduated with a First in 1986. I was awarded a scholarship to study at the University of Massachusetts where I completed a Masters Degree in sculpture in 1988. I have taught Drawing and 3D Design at further education level and evening classes. I have been part of a number of exhibitions over the years and I currently work as a self-employed artist/gardener and continue to pursue a variety of creative endeavours.
I would tell you more, of my artistic journey, but I never got passed Farrington Gurney.
